Working Principle
As an amide nitrogen fertilizer, the efficacy release of this large-granule urea is a critical biochemical transformation process. After application, the molecular urea is rapidly hydrolyzed in the soil by the enzyme urease, secreted by microorganisms, yielding unstable ammonium carbonate. This compound further dissociates into ammonium ions (NH₄⁺), which can be adsorbed by soil colloids, effectively reducing leaching losses. The adsorbed ammonium ions are then oxidized by nitrifying bacteria into nitrate (NO₃⁻) through two sequential stages: nitritation and nitration. This completes the full conversion of urea from a molecular form to ammonium and then to nitrate, making both primary nitrogen forms highly available for plant uptake. The large granule size physically moderates the initial hydrolysis rate, resulting in a more stable nitrogen supply that better synchronizes with crop demand.
