Product Introduction
Product Description
Sulfamic acid, chemical formula NH₂SO₃H, is a white orthorhombic crystal or crystalline powder. It is the simplest sulfamic acid compound, formed by replacing the hydroxyl group of sulfuric acid with an amino group, resulting in a solid inorganic strong acid. As an efficient and safe acidic cleaning agent, sulfonating agent, and chemical intermediate, it is widely used in boiler and heat exchanger descaling, metal surface treatment, electroplating bath preparation, textile printing and bleaching, flue gas denitrification, and the synthesis of sweeteners and flame retardants.
Working Principle
Its core functionality is based on its strong acidity and the reactivity of the sulfonylamino (-SO₂NH-) group:
Acidic Dissolution/Descaling: Provides a strong acidic environment to dissolve alkaline earth metal scales like calcium and magnesium carbonate, with fast reaction and generation of soluble salts, leaving minimal sludge.
Sulfonation Reaction: Acts as a mild sulfonating agent, reacting with alcohols, amines, and alkenes to introduce sulfonic acid groups.
pH Adjustment: Used as an acidic pH adjuster; its solutions are generally less corrosive to metals than inorganic strong acids (e.g., HCl, H₂SO₄) at the same concentration.
Bleaching Stabilization: Acts as a stabilizer and activator for bleaching agents in the textile industry.
Denitrification: Decomposes at high temperatures and can react with nitrogen oxides, used in flue gas denitrification.
Specification
Industrial products are mainly categorized into industrial grade and refined grade, typically in crystalline powder form.
Industrial Grade Sulfamic Acid
Main Content: Sulfamic acid (NH₂SO₃H) content is typically not less than 99.0%.
Key Parameters: Water-insoluble matter ≤ 0.01%; Sulfate (as SO₄²⁻) ≤ 0.05%; Iron (Fe) ≤ 0.0005%.
Appearance: White crystalline powder.
Refined / Electroplating Grade
Main Content: Sulfamic acid (NH₂SO₃H) content is typically not less than 99.5%.
Key Parameters: Heavy metals (as Pb) ≤ 0.0005%; Chloride (Cl⁻) ≤ 0.001%; Residue on ignition ≤ 0.01%.
Appearance: White fine crystalline powder, with higher purity and extremely low impurity content, especially suitable for electroplating applications sensitive to metal impurities.
Product Features
Solid Strong Acid: Acid strength comparable to nitric and hydrochloric acids (pKa ≈ 1.0), but exists in solid form, offering safe and convenient storage and transport.
Low Volatility: No acid mist issues associated with HCl or HNO₃, resulting in a more operator-friendly environment.
Excellent Water Solubility: Solubility at 20°C is approximately 21.3 g/100g water, yielding clear solutions.
Thermal Stability: Stable in dry state; decomposes at elevated temperatures (melting point ~205°C with decomposition).
Lower Corrosivity: Corrosion rate on most metals (especially steel) is lower than that of hydrochloric or sulfuric acids at the same concentration and temperature.
Soluble Reaction Products: Sulfamate salts formed from reaction with calcium/magnesium scales are highly soluble, minimizing secondary precipitation.
Low Biotoxicity: Biodegradable and relatively environmentally friendly.
